Claro is the meeting point of New York and Oaxaca. Located on the third avenue, Claro was founded by chef T.J Steeles who had been passionate about Oaxacan food for a long time.
Having lived in Oaxaca for many years, chef T.J developed a deep relationship with Oaxacan cooks, artisans, and farmers.
His dream was to start a farm-to-table restaurant featuring Mexican food; at one time when he was a chef at Union Square Cafe.
The restaurant features a well-tiled floor made by international artists Dr. Lakra, who also designed the restaurant’s logo and Francisco Toledo. The dinnerware and the woodcuts in the restaurant add to its beautiful natural look.
If seasons never change and Summer is the only season, going to Claro could be bliss; this place is the best to be during this season. Its back patio will give you the most outstanding experience ever.
The backyard is a haven of trees and several string lights designed to enhance its beauty. From the backyard, you can view the restaurant’s open kitchen.
It’s a nice place to visit with your family or friends where you can enjoy a cold drink as you watch the best chef preparing your brunch meal.
Claro Brooklyn Menu
Claro believes in natural products gotten directly from the farm. They serve organic meat and farm produce, which they source locally any time they manage to.
They also do Oaxacan Criollo corn which is non-GMO and made in-house. The restaurant is a gluten-free zone; thus, they make all their cheeses and sausages in-house.
Their menu features all types of Tequila, Mezcal, Raicilla, Destilado De Agave, Rum and Sotol. They offer a four-course meal for dinner. In the first course you’d be served with some farm salad, tostada de esparragos, mulita, or aguachile de fresas.
One of the restaurant’s mouth-wetting signature main meals, enchiladas primavera, features salsa chilhuacle, feta, and nettles green garlic. All the meals in their Mexican food menu will keep you coming back.
What to Order in Claro, Brooklyn
If you’re in Brooklyn and looking forward to having some time to enjoy a meal from Claro restaurant, there’s a wide range of meals you can select from.
As I said earlier, one of their signature meals, enchiladas primavera, has always been my favorite.
But before that, you’d want an excellent starter; consider ordering their salad/Ensalada de Granja, which consists of Norwich farm carrots, chapulines, turnips, and quesillo.
Then finish the day with your favorite dessert from the restaurant; I’d prefer chocolate mole cake made of whipped cream before you call it a day.
The restaurant doesn’t have a physical menu book, but you can access one online, which is updated daily.
It offers both dine-in and take-away. If you’re craving the food from your ancestral land-the Mexican dishes- and you’re not able to drive down to the restaurant, you can order some online, and they will deliver it to your door.
